We are hosting our first club training day Sunday, February 15 at Woodduck WMA between Norfolk and Stanton starting at noon. Focus will be on general obedience and simple marks but we will always adapt to what you want to work on. Hope to see you there!
Out 2014 August hunt test is in the books. The weather made us stress a little more than we would have liked with the rain we got at night, but overall the weekend was a huge success. Thank you to all of the judges, our bird techs, all the handlers, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and our landowner. Hosting a test is a lot of work, but getting to see everyone and see everyone's successes make it all worth it.
September brings the start of hunting season. We hope you and your dog have a very successful season and we are looking forward to 2015.
We will be holding training nights every Thursday at Nebraska Game and Parks office in Norfolk. They will be from 6 - 8pm. Contact Ken at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
Congratulations to Ken Newcomb and HRCH UH Run-N-Guns Apache Dancer on passing a very challenging, well thought up test this weekend at Kansas City HRC's hunt test and entering the 500 point club. Ken has given up more time judging than most people in the region it was great to see Dancer make into this elite club.
We had a great training day last Saturday. The weather was a little cool with the wind, but it didn't stop anyone from having a good time. We had dogs with all levels of training, some making their first retrieve out of a winger, working on double retrieves, running marks on the side of a hill. All dogs walked away a little better and the handlers feeling great about their dogs.
Our next club training day will be held on Saturday, April 13 at Woodduck WMA starting at 12:00. We'll work on steadyness while shooting, land and water marks and we'll go over some baseball drills that teach young dogs hand signals to be used on blind retrieves. This is open to anyone with a retriever wanting a better hunting dog. Hope to see you there!
Well mother nature didn't quite cooperate with us having a training day, but I'm not gonna complain about getting some much needed moisture! We will have our next club training day Saturday, March 16 at Woodduck WMA near Stanton NE starting around 1:00 pm. As of this time, the weather looks good. We'll be going over some simple marking drills and work on steadying our dogs. Also, if there is anything else anyone wants to go over we will work on that as well. Hope to see you there!
The weather was a little cooler than originally expected, but we had a great training day for February! Coming right out of hunting season the dogs obedience was a little loose, but overall, they all looked great! Our next club training day will be Saturday, March 9 starting at 1 p.m. at Woodduck WMA near Norfolk Ne. We probaly won't be doing any water work yet, but we'll have a few different setups on land for dogs of all ages and levels of training. Hope to see you there!
We hope everyone had a great hunting season. We're going to have our first club training day Saturday, February 2 at Summit Lake SRA near Tekamah NE. We will start around noon and have a short meeting afterwards at the No Wake bar and grill on the lake to go over and schedule training days. Anyone is welcomed and we will be doing work for dogs at all levels in their training.
Huge congratulations goes out to our road warrior Sarah Harris and HRCH Just Ducky's JustaPlaceOutWest "Tana" on earning their HRCH title at Midway HRC the end of September! Sarah and Tana are quite the team and have worked extremely hard and it's great to see their hard work and dedication pay off.
Our August hunt test is in the books! We had an incredible turn out, with people from Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The weather Saturday was beautiful, the food at the banquet was great. Sunday morning brought a heavy fog which delayed some tests from starting, but gave a really cool backdrop for other tests. Thanks to all of our judges, they set up some great tests in very dry conditions. Thanks to our members and handlers for helping to make sure the tests ran smooth. Congratulations to everyone that recieved ribbons and congratulations to everyone that titled!
I emailed all of our judges thanking them for coming and I recieved an email from one of our judges that I'd like to share.
No, THANK YOU!!!! I had an awesome time, and I loved using the river for the water test. I mean come on, how many places can boast that one site held all three level setups? :) Your group attracts the best of what HRC stands for. Those people willing to come together and work hard while enjoying the great outdoors, each other, and the dogs. This club is like a big family reunion. We may not always agree with each other, but we all know what is at the heart of the matter and that is having fun with each other and our dogs. You guys ARE HRC at its best. If you schedule it, we will come!!
A few members are still planning on running some hunt tests, but the test season is winding down quickly and everyone is starting to shift towards hunting season. I hope everyone has a great hunting season with your dogs.
